Weaving the Human Story: Teacher of History (KS3-5) - Portsmouth

Are you an imaginative and empathetic Teacher of History who believes in the power of narratives to connect, challenge, and inspire understanding? Our Outstanding mixed secondary school in the vibrant city of Portsmouth is seeking a passionate educator to join our thriving History department from September 2025.

If you are driven by a desire to bring historical stories to life and nurture diverse perspectives across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, then this role is for you. Our school is celebrated for its inclusive ethos, strong academic achievements, and commitment to offering a broad and engaging curriculum that reflects both British history and significant global events. You will be instrumental in developing students' skills in historical interpretation, evidence-based argument, and nuanced understanding of cause and consequence. We are looking for someone who can foster a dynamic classroom where debate thrives, and every student feels empowered to connect with the human experience across different eras.

The ideal candidate will:

* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong degree in History or a related humanities field, with a comprehensive understanding of diverse historical periods.

* Be skilled at delivering creative and accessible lessons that engage all learners, fostering a love for historical inquiry and critical thinking.

* Actively contribute to our vibrant school culture, perhaps by leading a history club, organising museum visits, or participating in school-wide enrichment initiatives.

* Be dedicated to continuous professional development, embracing new pedagogical approaches and historical scholarship, particularly those that promote inclusivity and challenge traditional narratives.

* Demonstrate excellent classroom management, creating an inspiring and respectful learning environment where historical discourse flourishes.
