Level 3 Motor Mechanic / Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair faults in light vehicles (cars and vans)

*

Service and maintain vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension

*

Use diagnostic equipment to identify issues and ensure repairs meet manufacturer standards

*

Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tyre rotations

*

Inspect vehicles for safety and roadworthiness

*

Document work performed and communicate findings to customers or supervisors

*

Ensure environmentally responsible disposal of waste and used parts

*

Work independently or as part of a team in dealerships or independent garages

Skills & Competencies

Strong mechanical and technical aptitude

Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software

Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues

Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle systems is increasingly valuable

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent (e.g., City & Guilds Level 3)

*

Valid driver's license

*

Experience with light vehicle servicing (typically 3+ years preferred)
