A friendly and inclusive primary school in Newport is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Nursery and Reception, focusing on children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). This role starts in September 2025 and offers a chance to make a meaningful difference in the early years of education.

The Role

You'll be working in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), providing tailored support to pupils with ALN on a 1:1 basis or in small groups. Your aim will be to help children access learning through structured play, clear routines, and consistent encouragement.

Support may include pupils with:

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)

Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs

Developmental or sensory processing challenges

Key responsibilities:

Supporting daily learning and classroom routines

Helping implement support plans (IDPs or EHCPs)

Promoting emotional wellbeing and communication

Encouraging engagement through play-based learning

✅ Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

Patient, caring, and reliable

Confident supporting children with additional needs

Passionate about inclusion and early education

Experienced in a school or care setting (personal ALN experience is also valued)

Familiar with the EYFS curriculum and early learning methods

Requirements

Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)

A Child-Only Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Two professional references from the last 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
