Job Title: Director of Learning – Vocational Offer (Specialism in I.T.)

Job Purpose

To lead a high-performing vocational education provision with a focus on Information Technology (I.T.), promoting educational excellence in a caring, inclusive environment. This role ensures outstanding student outcomes through strategic leadership, curriculum innovation, and high-quality teaching.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the vocational department in line with the Academy’s vision and improvement plans.
  • Develop and implement a departmental plan with clear, data-driven targets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to raise attainment.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Design and deliver vocational curricula (KS3–KS5), with a focus on I.T.
  • Introduce innovative assessment strategies to support student progress.
  • Ensure curriculum continuity and support for all learners.

Teaching and Learning

  • Model and promote outstanding teaching practices.
  • Support staff in lesson planning and delivery.
  • Lead intervention and enrichment programmes, including after-school and holiday sessions.
  • Use data to inform teaching and set improvement targets.

Staff Development and Line Management

  • Line manage TLR holders and oversee departmental performance.
  • Lead CPD, mentoring, and coaching initiatives.
  • Support recruitment, induction, and professional reviews.

Student Progress and Support

  • Organise teaching groups and ensure effective classroom management.
  • Identify and support students with additional needs or high potential.
  • Promote personalised learning and reward achievement.
  • Provide careers advice and lead extra-curricular opportunities.

Community and Parental Engagement

  • Engage parents in supporting student learning.
  • Represent the department at Academy and community events.
  • Promote values of discipline, care, and respect.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • QTS and a relevant degree in I.T. or a vocational subject.
  • Proven leadership experience in education.
  • Strong track record of improving outcomes and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Desirable:

  • Experience with vocational qualifications (e.g., BTEC, T-Level).
  • Experience working with external partners and training providers.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
