Autism Support Worker - Huddersfield

About the role of an Autism Support Worker:

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with autism? At Engage Education, we’ve been supporting schools for over a decade, and we’re currently looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Worker to join a fantastic primary school in Huddersfield on a temporary basis.

You’ll play a key role in supporting autistic pupils—both 1:1 and in small group settings—helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive in a nurturing educational environment.

Key responsibilities of an Autism Support Worker:

• Providing tailored 1:1 support for autistic pupils across EYFS and primary levels
• Supporting social communication, sensory regulation, and emotional development
• Working closely with SENCOs, teachers, and other professionals to implement EHCPs
• Assisting with daily routines and creating a consistent, structured learning environment
• Using creative approaches to engage and encourage pupils with diverse needs

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working with autistic children or young people (in schools or similar settings)
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and communication support
• A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable)
• A genuine passion for inclusive education and SEND support
• A willingness to learn and adapt to the individual needs of each pupil
