Role Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated Carpentry Tutor to join a dynamic team delivering vocational training to young offenders at HMYOI Werrington. In this rewarding role, you will work with small groups of learners to develop their practical skills, knowledge and employability, helping them take positive steps toward their long-term personal and professional goals.

As a Carpentry Tutor, you will deliver engaging, high-quality courses that motivate and inspire learners, tailoring delivery to meet individual needs. You'll support learners in achieving recognised vocational qualifications and help prepare them for progression into employment or further education.

Key Responsibilities:

* Plan and deliver carpentry training sessions to small groups of learners in custody.

* Adapt training delivery methods to engage, challenge and meet the needs of all learners.

* Set clear and achievable targets to support learner progression.

* Ensure robust training plans are in place, tailored to individual needs and goals.

* Provide ongoing advice, guidance and support to learners throughout their course.

* Monitor and assess learner progress, maintaining accurate records.

* Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages development of both skills and confidence.

Essential Criteria:

* Level 2 (or higher) qualification in Carpentry or a related trade.

* Significant industry experience in the carpentry or construction sector.

* Experience delivering vocational training or mentoring others in a workshop or site setting.

* Passion for education and making a difference in learners' lives.

* Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate young learners.

Desirable:

* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, CertEd)

* Assessing qualification (e.g. TAQA, CAVA)

* Experience working in custodial or secure environments

Note: If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, full support will be provided to gain the necessary certification as part of your probationary period
