PHP Developer - London

Overall Job Purpose

Immediate Media is the special interest content and platform company, with brands like Radio Times, Good Food, Cycling News, Top Gear, Lego Ninjago, and Jewellery Maker TV.

We are looking for a skilled and passionate PHP Developer to join one of our development teams.

Reporting to the team’s Scrum Master, the successful candidate will be expected to develop, maintain, and support our digital products in accordance with the business and technology objectives.

  • Accountabilities

  • Work closely with all members of the team to deliver high-quality code that is tested and delivered across the full Software Development Life Cycle
  • Participate in all Agile ceremonies, including planning meetings, stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Ensure all code is tested and code reviewed to the highest standards
  • Adapt quickly to changing environments, concepts, and emerging technologies to assist in the future roadmap of our products and consumer experiences
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the craftsmanship and engineering aspects of software development
  • Knowledge, Experience & Competencies

    Candidates will be required to have good communication skills and work well within a team structure. A proven ability to develop new skills will be essential, as well as an intermediate understanding of the following:

  • PHP7, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • RESTful API development and consumption
  • Database migration strategies
  • Caching solutions
  • BDD / TDD / DDD and use of mocks and dependency injection e.g. PHPUnit
  • CMS plugin and theme development (WordPress, Drupal, etc.)
  • Integrated development environments and debugging
  • Source Control Management (SCM) e.g. Git
  • Object-oriented principles
  • SOLID principles and common design patterns
  • Software development best practices
  • Agile Scrum methodologies
