We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller for our client based in Exeter. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors you will be a key part of the Senior Management team and operate at an appropriate level to support the Board and to influence and implement business strategy, direction and change management. The Group is entering a period of growth, development and diversification, and this role represents an opportunity to be an integral part of the strategic and operational Senior Management team. The Financial Controller will be responsible for all aspects of financial management for the Group, including the provision of financial reporting, analysis and advice to the Board of Directors and the Senior Management team. You will require excellent analytical skills as well as a dynamic, proactive approach to problem solving, and the proven ability to understand the business needs and to develop and present relevant information to support these needs.

Specific responsibilities include:

* Overseeing and managing all aspects of the Group's financial reporting and ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of monthly and year end accounts, including analysis and reporting of margins, variances and trends.

* Preparation, analysis and reporting of detailed multi-currency cash flow forecasting, and working closely with all relevant departments to ensure efficient cash flow management.

* Preparation and reporting of annual budgets and in-year turnover and profit forecasts.

* Analysis of detailed product costings and assisting in product cost-down initiatives. This requires the ability to quickly drill down and understand the products, supply-chain, customers and markets.

* Managing the Accounts department to ensure accurate and timely completion of all aspects of the nominal ledger, sales ledger (including credit control), purchase ledger, treasury, payroll and expenses.

* Administration of all financial aspects of overseas branches, including liaising with local accountants, solicitors, banks and relevant statutory authorities.

* Administration of all statutory requirements relating to PAYE, VAT, Pensions, Customs, Insurance, and any other relevant statutory body.

* Liaising as first point of contact with the Group's bankers and financial advisors.

* Maintenance, development and documentation of thorough financial procedures and internal controls.

The person

* The successful candidate must be a confident and credible communicator with the ability to bring creative and rational ideas to help drive the business forward. You must be able to understand the wider business objectives in order to make clear, common sense decisions that support the Group and the Board in meeting its short, medium and long term goals.

* A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Financial Controller role, preferably with experience of working within an SME manufacturing business.

* ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or proven qualification by experience.

* Excellent communication and influencing skills to support development and change management throughout the Group. You must have a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy in order to successfully work with and challenge colleagues at all levels throughout the business.

* The ability to maintain confidentiality, consistently acting with discretion and diplomacy.

* A positive and motivated outlook.

* High level of organisational and communication skills both written and verbal, with the flexibility to adapt in a fast-changing environment.

* Excellent IT skills, preferably with experience of Sage 200.
