Have you considered working on projects connected with the future of clean sustainable energy?
This is a rare opportunity to gain experience working on a Tritium plant and develop skills which will be come increasingly sought after as Fusion Energy research develops.

You'll join the Central Engineering team working on creation of innovative process design solutions on major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design. You'll lead work packages for system/component repair, replacement or upgrade activities and produce technical reports and ensure adherence to design standards.

You'll be experienced in performing engineering calculations to support design decisions with emphasis on Fuel Cycle systems..

Role Responsibilities:

* Accountable for originating and progressing designs for major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design on enhancement programs for UKAEA's facilities as well as for future fusion devices.
* Accountable for engineering aspects relating to all assigned systems / components including repair, replacement or upgrade activities.
* Effectively co-ordinate work packages for engineers, designers and drawing office personnel.
* Develop and effectively work with systems engineers for managing design requirements and interfaces, and processes for ensuring satisfactory performance/compliance including using analytical tools for Hazard and Risk analysis
* Develop process designs through the creation of mass and energy balances, process modelling and first principle design that support a process flow architecture, leading to Process Flow Diagrams
* Development of P&IDs and supporting process data sheets for major process equipment
* Ensure that designs are appropriately validated (by computation or experiment), working with engineering analysts as necessary, and ensure appropriate adherence to international and fusion-specific design standards.
* Deliver work packages to the satisfaction of the Customer (internal or external) within the imposed constraints.
* Produce technical reports, departmental notes and journal / conference papers where relevant.
* Supervise detail design and manufacture; supervise the preparation of technical specifications and tender documentation and support subsequent tender and contract management activities. Ensure design and procurement phases implement principles of value engineering and design for manufacture. Work collaboratively with industry and academia to undertake and deliver complex research and experimentation.
* Supervise junior engineers and students, providing them with challenging projects, monitoring their progress and providing constructive feedback.
* Demonstrate good communication with personnel across the organisation as well as good team working.
* Act as a Technical Reference for the organisation in areas of knowledge.
* Adhere to group, departmental and organisational management systems.
* Help to raise the standard for Group competences and be proactive in defining new systems or processes that enhance the productivity of the Group or the wider organisation.
* The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that are reasonable and commensurate with this role that may not be specifically referred to in this document.

The following experience & qualifications would be of interest:

* A relevant engineering degree or equivalent
* Ability to perform exploratory design calculations using first principles
* Proven capability in process engineering analysis and a good working knowledge of engineering materials and their properties
* Experience with relevant environmental factors such as vacuum
* Leading teams and supervising other staff
* Good communication and technical writing skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
