Reed FE are working with a College in Cambridgeshire and are seeking a Communication Support Worker (CSW), where you will play a pivotal role in supporting deaf and hearing-impaired students. Day-to-day of the role:

  • Work under the supervision of the Head of Learning Support to provide effective communication and support, ensuring high outcomes for students with hearing impairments.
  • Facilitate communication and access in class using various modes such as BSL/SSE, note-taking, lip speaking, and language modification.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff to adapt the learning environment, materials, and teaching methods to better suit d/Deaf learners.
  • Provide advice on communication strategies and support for activities outside the classroom, including trips and visits.
  • Modify and adapt language and curriculum materials as needed.
  • Assist with the use of technical aids like minicom and radio aids in the learning environment.
  • Support students during examinations and assessments in line with guidelines from awarding bodies.
  • Transcribe videos and prepare tailored learning materials for deaf learners.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) - Level 3 qualification preferred.
  • Experience working with people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is advantageous.
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • A formal CSW qualification is ideal but not mandatory.
