Emotional and Behavioural Disorder Support Mentor

Role location: Failsworth
Starting date: Immediate
Salary: £1350-£1600 PM depending on experience.

We are looking for a qualified and highly skilled SEND support mentor for a job within a 'good' Secondary school in Failsworth. The successful candidate will be working 1:1 with a child with emotional and behavioural difficulties (can affect hyperactivity (short attention span, impulsiveness); Aggression or self-injurious behaviour (acting out, fighting); Withdrawal (not interacting socially with others, excessive fear, or anxiety).

The school are looking for a qualified and experienced support mentor long-term to help the child's emotional, and behavioural needs. The support mentor will be confident in their capabilities to connect and stimulate the children to achieve their best.

The candidate will have a love of working with children with special educational needs, whilst building a positive and supportive working relationship with the child to develop their skills to help the pupil reach their potential.

Key Skills

Ability to plan and prepare programmes of work, appropriately differentiated, for the delivery of the curriculum.
Ability to assess the needs of individual students and maintain appropriate records for the purpose of continuity and progress in curriculum areas.
Knowledge of the requirements of delivering education to students with AEN/SEN, very able, LAC or who have other individual needs.
Ability to select appropriate resources to create a stimulating learning environment.
Ability to relate and communicate effectively with parents and encourage their participation in their child's education.
Ability to direct the work of a teaching assistant.
Ability to work closely with other members of staff in the development of the curriculum and pastoral work of the school.
Excellent time and task management skills.
Understanding of multicultural education and other issues related to ensuring that classroom organisation and practices is not discriminatory
Evidence of exemplary classroom practice with students with SEMH difficulties in a similar setting.
To be an effective professional who demonstrates their curriculum knowledge, able to deliver effective teaching, learning and assessment to support the achievement of students.

Essential education and qualifications

A minimum level 4 qualification
A minimum of 12 months teaching experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualities/skills and experience:

Excellent behaviour management
Have at least 3 months experience of supporting a child with SEND
