1:1 Visual Impairment Support Assistant (Full-Time)

Location: Bromley-By-Bow

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:40pm

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Visual Impairment Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in East London that supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a 1:1 Visual Impairment Support Assistant to work closely with a student who requires tailored support to access learning and thrive within the school environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting independence, confidence, and engagement both in and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a student with visual impairment needs
  • Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility
  • Support the student’s social, emotional, and academic development
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in line with the school’s ethos

As a 1:1 Visual Impairment Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in helping the student navigate both their learning and social experiences in a supportive and structured setting.

  • Have experience working with young people with Visual Impairment
  • Be patient, resilient, and empathetic
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be a positive role model who can build trust and rapport
  • Show a genuine commitment to supporting diverse communities and backgrounds
  • Have experience working in SEND/SEMH settings
