Would you relish the challenge to contribute to the Bradford Community by becoming a Volunteer Trustee at The Priestley Academy?

The Voluntary Opportunity

The Priestley Academy Trust was formed in 2016 to create a local solution in providing outstanding education, and to enable its schools to work together, increasing capacity for embedding and sustaining real school improvement for the benefit of its learners. The Trust's six primary schools are located within five minutes' drive of each other in the heart of Manningham in the City of Bradford. The Trust employs 408 staff across these schools to support 2,655 pupils, with a budget of approximately £15m.

The Trust's five core values are respect, responsibility, excellence, compassion and collaboration, and its mission is to develop all pupils as both academic and well rounded, independent young people, equipped with the understanding, attitudes, skills and behaviours necessary to succeed in life. The Trust strives to ensure that its learners are prepared to succeed in secondary school, higher education, employment and their family and community life. Together we want to 'Be The Change'.

The Board seeks up to seven Trustees, preferably with senior level experience in the following, however all experience will be considered.

Strategic Leadership/experience in Education
Business/Financial Leadership
Risk Management
Growth & Change Management
Human Resources
Operational systems and processes

As a key member of the Board you will support the Trust in achieving the following over the next 12-18 months:

Development - 'Be The Change' is the underpinning element in the vision and values of the Trust. In order to enable us to 'Be The Change' we need to ensure our strategic plans are put into action and continually monitored and reviewed - the main focus being improving the outcomes for the pupils we serve.

Our Trustees will play an important role in ensuring these are implemented effectively and are having the desired impact.

Recovery - the pandemic has affected the progress of all students across the country, and the Trust, both academically and pastorally and we will be addressing the challenge of helping our children to recover from the lost learning over the coming months and years. Alongside this are the effects of the current cost of living crisis and the ever-increasing challenge to close the educational gap.

Expansion - the Trust has carried out a variety of school-to-school leadership deployments in neighbouring authorities and continues to offer support to schools via the sponsorship model. In order to ensure the ability to provide this support, the Trust's central services will continue to be developed as new schools join.

What's involved?

Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which at The Priestley Academy Trust involves attending eight meetings per academic year, amounting to approximately 3 hours of work a month.

You will be responsible for:

ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

Board meetings are held in BD17 7DB however attendance in person is not an absolute requirement. Please note this is a voluntary opportunity.

If you feel you have the qualities and are interested, please apply now or contact Charlotte Heap at The Priestley Academy.
