Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager maintains high-level oversight for the accounting operations of the Company, to include the production of periodic financial reports for senior management, maintenance of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for the company's financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, budgeting, tax compliance, and various special analyses. This role oversees multiple divisions under the Double Helix Management.  Additionally, the incumbent will serve an integral role in the due diligence of strategic opportunities working with senior management and outside consultants.  This position will embody the values of Double Helix Management and successfully employ leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire others and drive the mission, vision, and values of the Organization.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accounting Management

o  Develops and maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

o  Oversees the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals, if required

o   Directs and sustains the accounting operations of multiple divisions, including control systems, transactional-processing operations, and policies and procedures

o   Provides leadership in the acquisition of new organizations and consolidation of divergent accounting systems, processes, procedures and philosophies

o   Models high customer service qualities and drives team accountability

o  Demonstrates the ability to maintain a calm work environment through the use of conflict resolution, encouragement, motivational skills and interpersonal tools

 

Reporting Functions

o  Maintains and issues timely and complete financial statements on a monthly basis 

o   Closes accounting records timely and completely on a monthly basis

o  Recommends benchmarks by which to measure the performance of company operations

o   Partners with various Executives and Department Heads to establish and manage the production of weekly and monthly budgets and forecasts

o  Calculates variances from the budget, and provides proposals for correction 

o  Collaborates with CFO on maintaining budgetary goals 

o  Develops, implements and prepares a system of managing cost reports

 

Transactional Responsibilities

o  Manages an Accounts Payable Clerk, to ensure timely processing and bill payment

o   Reviews expense coding for all bills recorded by Accounts Payable Clerk

o   Records and reviews all accrual entries 

o  Communicates with vendors on behalf of accounts payable efforts as needed

o   Performs and directs periodic inventory count as needed

o  Oversees the processing of payroll in conjunction with the CFO 

o  Completes bank reconciliations of all bank accounts on a weekly basis

o  Maintains an orderly accounting filing system

 

Compliance Responsibilities

o  Complies with local, state and federal government reporting requirements

o   Assists in tax filings as requested by the CFO or his designate(s)

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Education / Certifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required, Master’s Degree is preferred

·       Big 4 experience is preferred

·       Preference will be given to a candidate who is a Certified Public Accountant

 

Experience / Abilities:

·       4 - 6 years of applicable work experience

·       2 years in management or leadership experience

·       Proven ability to successfully navigate mergers and acquisitions, strategic combinations, and special projects including the integration of accounting systems and control mechanisms

·       Excellent knowledge of Excel required, experience with QuickBooks preferred

·       Exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

·       Demonstrated ability to work with large amounts of data, including diligent checks for accuracy

·       Ability to manage multiple priorities, while maintaining a professional demeanor

 

TRAVEL AND HOURS

·       This position is full-time exempt position 

·       Limited travel is required with this position (less than 5%)
