GTS Transportation is currently recruiting for a Fleet Safety Manager to work for our client in the Rail Industry, based in London. 

Company Overview:Our client is a leading railway transportation provider committed to ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence. Operating within a dynamic rail network, they prioritize the maintenance of high standards and legislative adherence in fleet management.

Job Summary:The Fleet Safety & Standards Manager will lead the compliance efforts at East Ham Depot, ensuring alignment with evolving standards and legislation related to traction and rolling stock (T&RS) and plant operations. This role is crucial in constructing and implementing systems to guarantee staff, contractor, and public safety, while also supporting cost-effective maintenance and improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and implement technical standards and legislation relevant to T&RS and plant maintenance, ensuring compliance with existing and new requirements.
  • Specify audit scopes to ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain and enhance the ISO9001 Quality Management System and ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Approve engineering change documents and concessions, and monitor safety performance of fleet personnel and contractors.
  • Ensure depot staff are protected from hazardous substances and oversee safety-related meetings and audits.
  • Provide mentorship for engineering graduates and apprentices, and offer guidance on engineering issues.
  • Manage safety labelling on fleets, represent the company at industry events, and develop safety management procedures.
  • Procure technical consultancy work as directed and provide support during emergencies and incidents.
  • Deputize for the Head of Engineering and lead the engineering training resource.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Chartered Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic engineer preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and practical experience in T&RS maintenance.
  • Experience in fleet maintenance from an operational depot and strong management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant statutory requirements, codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Proven experience in the Rolling Stock Industry, with experience in management roles.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical documentation creation and effective communication.
  • Safety training/certification including fire safety, NEBOSH Safety Management, and Personal Track Safety.
