Commercial Estimating Engineer

Overview

Actio Recruitment is working with a precision engineering company in Willenhall to appoint an experienced Commercial Estimating Engineer. This is a key position within the business, responsible for leading customer quotation activity, supporting commercial decision‑making, and contributing to the company's engineering Cost of Sales (COS) performance.

The role requires a commercially minded engineer with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to improving processes and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee and coordinate all customer estimating tasks within the department, ensuring accurate and timely quotation preparation.

* Develop cost estimates using robust methodologies and sound engineering judgement.

* Provide commercial insight and support relating to engineering Cost of Sales, helping the business understand cost drivers and profitability.

* Analyse COS data to identify trends, highlight inefficiencies, and recommend actions that support future cost reductions.

* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping refine estimating processes and departmental performance.

* Work closely with engineering teams to ensure customer requirements are understood and achievable within cost and time constraints.

* Create or update process documentation where required, ensuring alignment with the company's Business Management System (BMS).

Skills & Experience Required

* Strong background in precision engineering, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.

* Proven experience in estimating, cost analysis, or commercial engineering roles.

* Excellent numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical information.

* Confident communicator capable of working cross‑functionally with engineering, commercial, and operational teams.

* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimating activities simultaneously.

* A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
