An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced finance professional to lead the Student Fees function at one of the UK’s leading universities. With an annual turnover exceeding £200 million – and student-related income representing a significant proportion – this is a pivotal role ensuring the efficient management, processing, and collection of tuition and accommodation fees.
The RoleThe Head of Student Fees will lead a dedicated team responsible for all aspects of student billing, payments, and debt collection, ensuring that systems are efficient, compliant, and student-focused. The postholder will champion continuous improvement, modernising processes and systems to deliver an agile, digital-first approach to fee management.
Working closely with colleagues in Finance, IT, Student Services and Administration, this role will enhance the student journey by ensuring a smooth, transparent and supportive experience from enrolment through to graduation. The postholder will also manage key external relationships, including those with payment providers, collection agencies and the Student Loans Company.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop the Student Fees team, promoting a culture of accountability and service excellence.
- Oversee the billing, collection and reconciliation of tuition and accommodation fees (c.£150m annually).
- Drive systems improvement and process automation in collaboration with IT and Finance teams.
- Ensure compliance with financial, legal and regulatory requirements (including FCA, CMA and PCI-DSS).
- Provide accurate reporting and insights to senior stakeholders, supporting financial planning and decision-making.
- Deliver a high-quality, empathetic service that balances financial rigour with an excellent student experience.
The PersonYou will be a confident and experienced leader with strong financial management skills and a passion for service improvement. With a background in income collection, financial operations or credit control, you will combine analytical ability with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
