Alternative Provision Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated Alternative Provision Teacher to plan and deliver 1:1 and small group sessions for primary aged pupils who struggle to access mainstream education due to SEN, SEMH, medical needs, or while awaiting a specialist school setting. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children requiring tailored educational approaches.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver a range of academic and therapeutic sessions, evaluating these activities to inform future learning and meet the diverse needs and interests of each child.
  • Provide learning opportunities tailored to the needs, abilities, and developmental stage of each student, aiming to give every student the chance to experience success and challenge them to achieve their full potential.
  • Establish effective and positive relationships with students based on mutual respect, recognition of individuality, and affirmation of cultural identity.
  • Work as part of the committed Oak Activities team, teaching pupils at various locations throughout Cambridgeshire.
  • Maintain individual records for each child based on observation and interaction to monitor and track progress and as a tool for planning and assessment.
  • Collaborate closely with schools, parents/carers, and multi-agency teams.
  • Act as a key worker/lead tutor for a small group of students, supporting their pastoral welfare.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and professional development training to stay updated with personal development and regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in delivering educational sessions to primary aged pupils with SEN, SEMH, or medical needs.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and evaluate educational and therapeutic sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Commitment to professional development and staying updated with educational trends and regulations.
  • Experience as a key worker or lead tutor, with skills in supporting pastoral welfare.
