Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Outdoor Learning and Student Support Focus

Are you a skilled and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful impact in a supportive secondary school environment? This exciting HLTA opportunity offers a unique blend of academic support and outdoor education, including involvement with a thriving Forest School programme.

About the Role

This is not your average HLTA position. As well as supporting in-class teaching and learning across a range of subjects, you'll play a key role in the school's Forest School provision, helping students reconnect with nature, build resilience, and develop vital social and emotional skills.

Your role will include:

Delivering structured interventions and small group support, especially in English, maths, and pastoral care.

Covering occasional lessons in the absence of the class teacher (no planning required).

Supporting the Forest School lead in planning and running engaging outdoor sessions.

Building positive, trusting relationships with students, helping them to develop confidence and independence.

Working closely with SEN staff and teaching teams to provide inclusive and impactful support.

Ideal Candidate

Holds HLTA status or equivalent experience in a secondary school setting.

Passionate about inclusive education and student development.

Confident leading groups of students and delivering pre-prepared lessons.

Experience or strong interest in outdoor education, Forest School, or nature-based learning.

A team player who is adaptable, proactive, and eager to learn.

Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to support across the curriculum.
