Ecologist - Essex

An established and growing ecological consultancy based in Essex is seeking an Ecologist to join its friendly and experienced team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated ecologist to work on a varied portfolio of projects while continuing to develop technical skills and professional experience within a supportive consultancy environment. The Ecologist will play an important role in supporting and delivering a range of ecological services across projects in sectors such as residential development, infrastructure, and land management.The successful candidate will benefit from a supportive working culture and a strong focus on professional development.

Responsibilities are expected to include:

Undertaking ecological surveys including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), habitat surveys, and protected species surveys

Assisting with and contributing to Ecological Impact Assessments and a variety of technical reports

Supporting biodiversity net gain assessments and habitat mapping

Collecting, analysing, and interpreting ecological data

Liaising with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders as required

Ensuring work is completed in accordance with current wildlife legislation, planning policy, and industry best practice

Applicants should ideally have:

A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline

Previous experience undertaking ecological surveys

Knowledge of UK habitats, protected species, and relevant wildlife legislation

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Good organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

A full UK driving licence
