About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Safety Case Engineer to support the development and maintenance of nuclear safety cases within a highly regulated environment. This long-term contract role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that nuclear facilities operate safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, author, and maintain nuclear safety case documentation
Produce key safety case deliverables including hazard assessments, fault studies, and safety justifications
Support the preparation of documents such as Safety Reports, Basis of Safety Case (BoSC), and ALARP justifications
Apply deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis techniques where required
Interface with engineering, operations, and project teams to gather inputs and ensure alignment
Support hazard identification studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP)
Ensure compliance with UK nuclear regulatory frameworks and standards
Engage with regulators, including Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), where required
Contribute to safety case reviews, updates, and continuous improvement activities
Support configuration control and change management processes

Requirements

Degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
Proven experience in safety case development within the nuclear industry
Strong understanding of UK nuclear regulatory requirements and safety case methodologies
Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment techniques
Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Must be a sole British national due to security clearance requirements

Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience working on major UK nuclear programmes such as Sellafield, Hinkley Point C, or Devonport Dockyard
Familiarity with probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) tools and methodologies
Chartered Engineer status or working towards membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., Nuclear Institute)
Experience supporting regulatory interactions and safety case submissions
Knowledge of human factors, radiological protection, or criticality safety

Security clearance will be required for this role
Hybrid working arrangements with periodic site attendance expected
