Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Secondary School Student Support Assistant to work in one of our partner secondary schools in Newport. This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11–16, helping them stay focused, engaged, and confident in the classroom.

The Role

As a Student Support Assistant, you’ll work closely with teaching staff to provide general classroom, 1:1 and small-group support, particularly for pupils with additional learning needs. You may be working within the school’s learning resource base, supporting students who need extra encouragement to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

You’ll be a positive role model, supporting behaviour, engagement, and progress while helping students build confidence and independence!

This Role Is Ideal For Candidates Who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people (this does not have to be within an educational setting
  • Have experience supporting individuals with additional learning needs (ALN)
  • Are studying or have studied a relevant subject, such as psychology, sports, core subjects, education, or youth studies etc.
  • Are a recent graduate looking to gain valuable classroom and teaching experience
  • Have previous experience as a support worker, care worker, or youth worker
  • Bring strong transferable skills and a genuine passion for working in a school environment

Educator Requirements

You must be 18 or over and either already hold or be willing to apply for (we can support you with this):

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
  • Level 2 Safeguarding (completed during onboarding)
  • Two professional references covering the past 24 months (or equivalent)
