The Bank of England is seeking a Lead Solution Architect with data-collection expertise to help deliver BEEDS 2.0 (Bank of England Electronic Data Submission portal). Based in Leeds on a 21-month FTC with a salary of £72,320 - £81,360 plus an 8% cash benefits allowance, up to 25% discretionary annual bonus and a non-contributory pension.
Role description
As a Lead Solution Architect, you will support the design and delivery of a new data collection platform which will handle large volumes of structured and semi-structured data, ensuring it is securely ingested, validated and integrated into the Bank's wider data environment.
You will be involved from discovery stages through procurement, design and into delivery. A key part of the role will be supporting vendor selection and shaping the target architecture, ensuring the chosen solution aligns with the Bank's standards and integrates effectively with existing systems.
The role requires a strong understanding of data collection, ingestion and validation, alongside the ability to design end-to-end solutions across cloud environments. You will work closely with stakeholders across architecture, data, technology and the business, as well as external suppliers.
As a Lead Solution Architect you will:
* Define and shape the architecture for BEEDS 2.0 from discovery through to delivery.
* Lead architectural governance and contribute to Bank-wide design forums.
* Support procurement activity, evaluate vendors and lead technical solution selection.
* Design secure ingestion, validation and processing workflows for structured and semi-structured data (XBRL, XML, JSON, Excel).
* Ensure end-to-end regulatory compliance, audit controls and strong data governance.
* Oversee integration with Azure ADLS, identity services, pipelines and enterprise platforms.
* Work collaboratively with Data Architects, Business Analysts, PRA stakeholders and supplier teams.
Essential skills
- Strong domain knowledge of regulatory data collection and submission platforms, including XBRL, XML, Excel and APIs
- Experience designing scalable and secure data collection architectures, including ingestion, validation and submission workflows
- Solid cloud and integration experience, particularly Azure and API-led high-volume data ingestion
- Strong understanding of data governance, lineage, traceability and data quality controls
- Proven architecture experience, including design artefacts, governance and stakeholder management
- Desirable skills
- Experience working in regulatory or cross-regulator environments, including international data collection platforms
- Familiarity with data standards and advanced validation approaches such as SDMX, JSON and cross-form or cross-dataset validation
- Experience designing hybrid or modern data architectures, including on-prem to cloud and event-driven or streaming patterns
- Exposure to metadata-driven or taxonomy-driven data collection platforms
- Experience working within enterprise architecture and governance frameworks, and supporting procurement or supplier assurance
- Experience delivering large-scale regulatory transformation programmes, including platform replacements and integration with wider data or analytics platforms
