Support Worker

Location: Aspens - Gensing, Gensing Road, St Leonards-on-sea, East Sussex, TN380HE

We are expanding our long standing team by recruiting two support workers to work across both a supported living environment and communities' settings.

We have a relaxed supportive environment with a friendly a team that genuinely cares for the people we support!

Gensing opened in 2006 with a block of 15 supported living flats and has been expanding into supporting people in the local communities. We support people with high functioning autism and mental health needs so that they can live a full life.

No two days are the same as we support in a variety of ways including group settings, NHS meetings, court appointments and advocacy, PIP benefit assessments/tribunals, day to day life and much more. You will have to be resilient as our service users can on occasion display behaviours that challenge which is primarily verbal.

We encourage and support at many activities which include sporting events, festivals, music gigs, historical events and even jet skiing! We also support on holidays abroad which have included trips to Germany, Russia, America and many more!

Our support workers get specialised training along with diverse experience which often leads to careers in social work, psychiatric nursing, occupational health and other specialist fields.

37 hours per week (various shifts between 8am and 10pm along with every other weekend). There are no split shifts.

At Aspens, the people we support and care for enjoy an active and fulfilling life, based in a residential environment. No two days are the same, just some of the activities our service users enjoy include swimming, theme parks, seaside trips, art and sites of historical interest.

Support Worker Requirements

NVQ/Diploma in Health and Social Care or willingness to work towards the qualification

Flexibility to work shifts including some weekends and sleep in duties and willing to support on service user holidays

Support worker / Carer Experience preferred

Good grasp of Maths and English

Positive 'can-do' Attitude

Friendly, Positive, Resilient, Calm and Helpful

Good problem solving skills

Good Sense of Humour

Patient and Caring Attitude

Good at active listening

Willing to learn

Open minded

Autism and Mental Health experience an advantage

The ideal support worker should be comfortable lone working, be confident, caring, able to assist with recording finances, medication & writing and recording daily information. Drivers are preferable due to locations.

Pay and Benefits

Hourly rate of £8.57 per hour

Permanent contract & guaranteed hours

45p per mile fuel allowance paid between support sessions

Holidays 22 days plus bank holidays

6 week set rota and no split shifts
