4Recruitment Services are seeking to recruit a Health Promotion Manager for Mental Health and Wellbeing for the Public Health team at Somerset County Council.

This post holder will be joining a friendly, welcoming and vibrant Public Health team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of local people, especially as we are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The post will fulfil a vital contribution to the vision of Somerset Improving Lives Strategy (2018-2029) through using skills to develop campaigns and projects that will help promote mental health and wellbeing of the population of Somerset. The Health Promotion Manager will work under the direction and with support of the Public Health Specialist - mental health and suicide prevention

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge, and experience in promoting mental health and wellbeing preferably within a public health context. They will be passionate about promoting mental health and have a drive to address health inequalities and promote wellbeing within our population.

The post is for 37 hours per week, however, flexible working arrangements will be considered. Working at home is the present working arrangements as a result of COVID-19. The base for this job is at County Hall in Taunton.


  • Contribute to the overall work programme of the Somerset Public Health Team, including the delivery of the Improving Lives Strategy (2018-2029), County Plan and the Public Health Outcomes in the Public Health Outcomes Framework which relate to the wider determinants of health, and tackling health inequalities (Including but not limited to housing, education, employment, poverty).
  • Work with providers and partners to identify where there are service gaps, or a requirement for service improvement. (this will include but not be limited to community settings, health and social care partners, voluntary sector, workplace).
  • Influence work with partners and providers to improve mental health outcomes for adults and communities across Somerset particularly focusing on populations with high levels of deprivation and health inequalities.
  • Influence work with partners and providers to reinforce the relationship between mental health and the wider determinates of health. Help to reduce health inequalities attributable to mental health problems by working in partnership to address issues that impact on mental health such as poor living standards, access to services and the natural environment.
  • Review, co-ordinate and evaluate the mental health and wellbeing training offer, on-line and face to face, to a wide audience of statutory, voluntary and community sector organisations. Some training delivery may be required.
  • Develop communications campaigns to promote positive public mental health.
  • Lead and develop projects that will help promote mental health and wellbeing, in line with the strategic priorities.
  • Support the Public Mental Health lead in the commissioning and management of public mental health projects and services.
  • Work with the wider Health Improvement Team within the Public Health Department to ensure the work is aligned to shared goals within the wider health improvement work.
  • Contribute to the Somerset mental health collaborative partnership of organisations and work with the Public Health Mental health lead to influence strategic direction for improving emotional health and wellbeing.
