We’re looking for a Fixed Asset Accountant for our public sector client based in Chelmsford on an initial 3-month contract paying up to £550 per day Inside IR35 (Umbrella).

This role allows hybrid working with an expectation to attend the office 1 day per week.

The successful Fixed Asset Accountant will possess proven skills working with the following –

• Maintaining and managing a Fixed Asset Register including valuation, depreciation, additions and disposals
• Preparing capital accounting entries and supporting year-end statutory accounts
• Reconciling Fixed Asset Registers to the general ledger and resolving discrepancies
• Strong knowledge of CIPFA Code of Practice and local government capital accounting
• Preparing audit-ready working papers, reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Reviewing and challenging external asset valuations for year-end reporting
• Experience producing capital accounting disclosures and documentation
• Knowledge of IFRS 16 lease accounting and related journal entries
• Providing technical accounting advice to finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Strong Excel skills and experience using finance systems and asset registers

Experience required

• CCAB qualified accountant
• Strong local government capital accounting experience
• Extensive knowledge of CIPFA Accounting Code and statutory reporting
• Experience working with property valuers and asset valuations
• Experience preparing statutory accounts capital sections
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
• Strong communication skills across finance and operational teams
