The Vale of Glamorgan Council is looking for a skilled and committed Social Worker or Senior Social Worker to join their vital Intake and Assessment Team. This is a chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in the Vale.

Salary: £39,428 - £48,421 per annum (depending on experience and seniority)

About the Role:

As a Social Worker or Senior Social Worker in the Intake and Assessment Team, you will be the crucial first point of contact for new referrals and concerns regarding children. Your responsibilities will typically include:

  • Receiving and screening all initial enquiries, including child protection referrals and Section 47 enquiries.
  • Conducting timely, robust, and comprehensive assessments to identify children in need, those at risk of harm, and their families' needs.
  • Making swift, child-focused decisions on the appropriate course of action, which may include signposting to early help, transferring to longer-term teams (e.g., Family Support), or initiating child protection procedures and court proceedings where necessary.
  • Working effectively with multi-agency partners to gather information, share concerns, and ensure integrated working.
  • Engaging directly with children, young people, and their families to build relationships and understand their circumstances.
  • Maintaining accurate, concise, and timely records in line with statutory requirements and local policies.
What We're Looking For:
  • A Social Work Degree or equivalent relevant degree.
  • At least 2 years of post-qualifying experience working with children and families in the UK.
  • Registered with Social Care Wales.
  • An up-to-date Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
Benefits of Working with Vale of Glamorgan Council (Permanent Staff):

As a valued permanent member of our team, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth, which may include:

  • Generous Pension Scheme: Membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • Competitive Annual Leave: A generous leave allowance, with options to purchase additional days.
  • Flexible Working Arrangements: Support for a healthy work-life balance, including agile working and potential for hybrid working (subject to service needs).
  • Free Parking: Access to free parking at office locations.
  • Comprehensive Training & Development: Regular supervision, continuous professional development opportunities, and access to internal and external training programs.
  • Health & Wellbeing Support: Access to employee assistance programs and health support initiatives.
