We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join the Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS) Retreatment Plant (SRP) Project - a strategic UK infrastructure programme supporting the safe long-term storage of Special Nuclear Materials.
This is a hands-on contract role offering hybrid flexibility (minimum 3 days/week on-site) with a competitive hourly rate and the chance to work on a national, safety-critical programme well into its execution phase.

Role Overview

Deliver mechanical design packages (3D models, general arrangement, detail drawings, BoMs)
Support glovebox plant designs and auxiliary systems
Address manufacturing and testing queries, red-line updates, and configuration changes
Liaise with internal stakeholders (CE&I, process, operations, human factors, construction, etc.)
Participate in formal design change implementation and support configuration management
Essential Skills & Experience

Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault (Basic or Pro)
Strong background in creating detailed mechanical drawings and BoMs
Solid working knowledge of BS 8888, ISO 8015, ISO 1101, and ISO 5459
Experience resolving manufacturing TQs, permits, and concessions
Configuration management experience
Desirable Experience

Nuclear project background and familiarity with Sellafield Ltd (SL) Engineering Standards
Experience designing machinery per SoMSR requirements
Awareness of CDM, PUWER, LOLER, and nuclear safety standards
Competence in Design Risk Assessments per BS EN 12100
Contract Details

Location: Sellafield site (3 days/week minimum on-site)
Rate: £32-£37/hour (umbrella)
Duration: Ongoing - supporting design completion, manufacturing, and testing phases
Security: SL security clearance and use of SL-issued laptop required
