Cobalt is supporting a local authority in the appointment of a Maintenance Operative, responsible for supporting the upkeep and smooth running of a portfolio of public, operational, and civic buildings across the borough.
This is a varied, site-based role with a focus on general maintenance, compliance checks, minor repairs, and contractor coordination. You'll be part of a well-supported facilities team, helping ensure that buildings remain safe, functional, and presentable for staff and visitors. The role offers regular daytime hours, a stable working pattern, and excellent job security.
Key responsibilities include:

Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance tasks across multiple buildings

Supporting delivery of statutory compliance checks, including fire, water, and plant room systems

Monitoring contractors and helping ensure remedial works are completed

Performing minor repairs and practical support tasks including office moves and furniture relocation

Maintaining shared areas, meeting rooms, and building entrances to a high standard

Assisting with access control, key holding, and daily building unlock/lock routines

Providing support for deliveries, post, and site supplies

Responding to reactive issues and service calls logged by site users

Liaising with the wider FM team and occasionally deputising for senior colleagues when required

Participating in the on-call rota for emergency response when necessary
You'll be a practical, self-motivated individual with good basic maintenance knowledge, strong organisation skills, and a hands-on, customer-friendly attitude. Experience working in public sector environments, educational premises, or commercial properties is beneficial, but not essential.
Working Monday to Friday on an 8-hour shift (scheduled between 7am and 7pm), you'll need to be flexible, proactive, and comfortable moving between sites during the day. A full UK driving licence is essential.
