Interim Financial Controller – Building Sector SME – Sheffield
c£60,000 pro rata | 3–6 Month Contract | Immediate Start
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Controller to join a friendly, well-established SME in the building sector, based in Sheffield. With a turnover of approximately £12 million, this business is known for its collaborative culture and strong local reputation.
This is a 3–6 month interim role to cover for absence, offering an immediate start and a competitive salary of circa £60,000 pro rata.
Key Responsibilities
As Interim FC, you will lead a small finance team and take full ownership of the finance function, including:
- Overseeing all financial reporting, including monthly management accounts and board packs
- Managing cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
- Managing VAT returns, and HMRC submissions
- Supporting operational teams with financial insights and decision-making
- Monitoring and reporting on WIP (Work in Progress) and job costing
- Improving financial processes and systems where needed
About You
We’re looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with:
- Proven experience in an SME environment, ideally within the building sector or a WIP-led business
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and mentor a small team
- Hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to hit the ground running and work independently
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
