Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our team at the Bridgwater Depot. In this key role, you will be responsible for the full planning and scheduling of our transport operations, ensuring the efficient use of resources and the highest levels of customer service. You will lead a small team of planners and support staff, manage driver coordination, and monitor performance against key operational targets. Key Responsibilities:
Operational Planning & Scheduling
- Leading the daily planning and scheduling of all inbound and outbound transport activities.
- Ensuring efficient vehicle utilisation and timely delivery performance.
- Managing the transition between peak and off-peak customer activity periods.
Team Leadership
- Managing a small team of approximately four transport planners and support staff.
- Providing clear direction, support, and development to ensure high team performance.
- Acting as the first point of contact for operational queries and escalations.
Driver & Fleet Coordination
- Managing and debriefing drivers, ensuring clear communication and compliance with company standards.
- Planning vehicle activity to maximise efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Meeting daily revenue targets per shift and per vehicle.
Performance Monitoring
- Monitoring and analysing key performance indicators (KPIs), including delivery punctuality, shift revenue, and vehicle productivity.
- Identifying areas for improvement and implementing practical solutions.
Collaboration & Customer Service
- Working closely with Line Managers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Communicating with customers regarding collection times and delivery bookings.
- Ensuring all contracted work is delivered in line with customer expectations.
Compliance & Standards
- Adhering to all company policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines and Safe Systems of Work.
- Maintaining high standards of personal hygiene and wearing the appropriate uniform and PPE at all times.
Required Experience:
- Previous experience in transport planning within the logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of driver hours, Working Time Directive (WTD), and legal compliance.
- Proven leadership skills, with experience managing small teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong analytical and reporting abilities.
- A track record of driving operational improvements and managing change effectively.
