Talent Builders are currently working with a privately owned and highly successful Building Services company that has grown and developed significantly over the years to provide full mechanical and electrical services installations to their clients. Due to their continued growth and success, they now have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Contracts Manager to join their operations team.

Job Role

Proactive contract and project management plays a critical role in their success, using a structured, planned and non-adversarial approach and ensuring that projects are delivered on time, on budget and without compromising on quality or safety.

Contracts Managers will be responsible for a number of projects simultaneously and the teams working on those projects. They will be actively involved at all stages of projects, potentially from tender stage through to delivery and post-completion aftercare.

The Contracts Manager is responsible for managing, allocating and utilising both internal and external resource in an efficient manner and maintaining a co-operative, motivated and successful team. Whilst managing relationships with a wide range of clients as well as individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Identify business development opportunities
Work closely with their Estimating team to prepare tenders then either act as Bid Manager or work closely with a Bid Manager to secure contracts
Take overall responsibility for all aspects of several projects simultaneously
Involvement with the development and implementation of Management Systems "Timeline Programme" from receipt of order to end of defects periods
Assist the Operations Directors and Project Managers with labour strategies for each project
Ensure that appropriate procurement plans are developed and executed
Liaise closely with clients throughout the planning and delivery phase of all projects to ensure high levels of cooperation are maintained
Assist the project teams with planning, coordination and programming
Take overall responsibility for all aspects (mechanical and electrical services) of projects, working closely with the Project Managers and other key players to achieve required results
Visit each project on a regular basis to monitor progress and take appropriate corrective action when necessary
Arrange and chair monthly "Project Review Meetings" with each project team Contribute to regular financial review meetings
Work closely with the Financial Controller and others to maximise the profitability of projects
Ensure that relations with the principal contractor are productive
Monitor HSE and when necessary initiate actions necessary to ensure compliance with our HSE policies / procedures and statutory requirements
Ensure compliance with construction standards
Show strong leadership in the management of sub-contractors
Liaise and assist where necessary with the project surveyor (including valuations and variations)
Ensure timely production of O&M manuals, record drawings and all other documentation required for practical completion date
Assist with identifying any specific training requirements that would benefit our staff
The Person

Appropriate level of education, qualification and experience in the sector or a closely-related sector
High level of contract, programme and project management expertise
High level of staff management expertise
High level of interpersonal skills
High level of commercial awareness
Able to develop and maintain productive relationships with a wide range of senior and subordinate colleagues, suppliers, clients and other key players, ensuring that positive morale is developed
