Manufacturing Engineer - Shape the Future of Rail with Hitachi Rail Europe

Hitachi Rail Europe is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of cutting-edge railway systems, dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable transport solutions worldwide.

We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer based out of our Eastleigh facility in Southampton occasionally covering our manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

This is a pivotal role for a qualified and experienced Manufacturing Engineer who possesses a thorough understanding of engineering and also acquired a strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques, materials science, and lean manufacturing principles.

This is a fixed term position until 31st December 2026.

Pay : £355.19 per day

Location: Eastleigh, Southampton (occasional travel to Newton Aycliffe for business needs)

Manufacturing Engineer

Core responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Technical review of design drawings and standards, to understand existing projects and to mobilise new projects
  • Creation, accuracy and maintenance of manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM's), process routings, SOPs
  • Experience of creating weld documentation such as weld maps, annotated weld drawings,
  • Creation of data for the process master to identify job times and manning requirements
  • Maintenance of accurate on-system information to support the day-to-day running of the business (this could include SAP, Windchill, SharePoint or other future system as needed)
  • Participate or lead risk assessment for all tasks and processes
  • Work analysis, method study and labour utilisation analysis including Kaizen activities, DFM/DFA, PFMEA
  • Evaluation and justification of capital investment projects
  • Identification of next generation equipment and methods to make improvements to Quality, Cost and Delivery of projects.
  • Promote best practice and safe working procedures
  • Provide industrial engineering support to other departments

  • Engineering and manufacturing experience in a welding/fabrication environment

Qualifications

You will be qualified in engineering disciplines to HNC, HND or Degree level
