The IP Planning Engineer is responsible for initiating augments on the Metro Ethernet Network as a result of the need to migrate customers onto newer technology, off end-of-life routers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
*Applies detailed understanding of current network configuration and technology to ensure capacity and efficiency of the planned designs. May participate in definition of new network configurations.
*Documents detailed technical design for installation of network equipment of moderate complexity, including written directions, graphical equipment layouts, and equipment topology. Also documents required customer migrations between different types of network equipment.
*Troubleshoots reporting errors and identifies data specific problems within large sets of data. Manually facilitates correction of reporting errors caused by data problems.
*Participates in the development of plans to augment, optimize, and reconfigure the network.
May participate in cross functional teams to give input to Architecture and Engineering on Planning and Deployment equipment and network design requirements.

Experience
An experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; competent in resolving issues in primary area of expertise.
* Networking/Telecommunications degree or similar experience
* In-depth knowledge of Internet Protocol networks and VPNs
* In-depth knowledge of Routing protocols - MLPS, BGP, OSPF
* Networking certifications CCNP, JNCIP, CWNA, JNCIA, JNCIS, and JNCIP etc highly valued
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Highly professional and self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and on a team
* Good troubleshooting skills and methodologies.
* Experienced in analysing issues, distilling and communicating their relevant aspects.
* Ability to proactively identify risks/issues and develop recommendations for resolution
