DEPARTMENT: Estates JOB TITLE: Domestic Welfare Assistant / VC Housekeeper SALARY & HOURS: £25,290 | Full-time 35 hours per week, may include shift work across weekdays, evenings, and weekends About the Role The University of Buckingham is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Domestic Welfare Assistant / VC Housekeeper to join our Estates team. This unique and varied role combines high standards of domestic cleaning with a strong focus on student welfare and support, helping us to deliver a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for all. As a key member of the Domestic Welfare Team, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across campus facilities and student accommodation, while also offering a friendly and approachable presence to students and staff. In addition, you will provide tailored domestic support to the Vice Chancellor's residence, including event preparation and household assistance. Key Responsibilities * Deliver high-quality cleaning services across university buildings, including teaching spaces, common areas, and student accommodation. * Carry out household cleaning, ironing, and hospitality support at the Vice Chancellor's residence. * Engage warmly and respectfully with students, offering informal welfare support and signposting as needed. * Participate in daily team briefings, logs, and audits to ensure consistent and responsive service delivery. * Support university events with domestic preparations such as table setting and general housekeeping. * Follow all health, safety, and COSHH guidelines and use cleaning equipment in line with training and regulations. What We're Looking For * A friendly, approachable individual with a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to high standards. * Previous cleaning or facilities experience is desirable, but not essential - full training will be provided. * Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with students and colleagues. * Basic understanding of cleaning safety practices (e.g. COSHH), or willingness to learn. * A team player who is also confident working independently.
