A single sex secondary school in the south Manchester area is looking for a Literacy Mentor to start with them in September on Monday 6th as the new academic year begins. The successful Literacy Mentor will be working within the support team, working with students identified as having lower than average Literacy levels. The SEN and support department (as well as the English department) at this secondary school is highly supportive and experienced in having graduates work within their department. The successful Literacy Mentor will be working with students across the full age range but primarily supporting those new to secondary school at KS3 level. The primary focus of the role is to support those year 7 students who aren't at the levels they should be so providing targeted intervention and mentoring to those highlighted students. There will also be the chance to support older students in year 9, 10 and 11 where required.
Key aspects of the Literacy Mentor role:
- Pay will be dependent upon prior experience and range between £1350 - £1450 per month
- Full time Literacy Mentor required to start on Monday 6th September 2021
- Work with students in year 7 (and other year groups as required) providing a range of assistance and intervention
- Mentor students who have been identified as requiring individual support
- Work with small groups of students as well as 1 to 1 where required
- Support a large English department working closely with all teachers and the Head of Department

The English department is well resourced with a team of teachers who range from newly qualified to those more experienced in their teaching careers. The successful Literacy Mentor will therefore benefit from the support and guidance of the team working with the entire department to support a range of students where required. As a Literacy Mentor required for a longer period of time, you will be allocated a mentor of your own within the department showing the department's continued support of all staff. The successful Literacy Mentor should be proficient in English Language and Literature and ideally have an English degree background or related subject specialism.
