About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Ecologist to support the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in Northern Ireland. The role involves conducting ecological surveys and providing advice and reporting for highways and rail infrastructure projects across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and carry out ecological surveys (including protected species and habitat assessments).
- Review and produce high-quality ecological reports in line with UK and NI wildlife legislation.
- Advise project teams on ecological risk, mitigation, and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on highways and rail projects.
- Make sound, independent decisions in both field and office environments.
Requirements
- 3–4 years of ecological consultancy or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of UK and Northern Ireland wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification highly desirable.
- Proven experience leading ecological surveys and producing technical reports.
- Full UK driving licence (vehicle provided for site visits).
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on project deliverables.
