Unqualified Teaching Assistant - SEMH Specialist School

Full-time | Ongoing Position

Milk Education are working in partnership with a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in the Newcastle area, who are seeking dedicated and resilient individuals to join their team.

This is a full-time opportunity to support secondary-aged pupils who require specialist classroom support and may present with challenging behaviour.

About the Role

This is a rewarding yet demanding role, ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

While this is an unqualified position, applicants must have recent relevant experience working with children or young people. This can include paid or voluntary experience such as:

School or classroom support

Youth work

Sports coaching

Behaviour mentoring

Care or support work

Alternative provision experience

Your role will include:

Providing specialist classroom support to secondary-aged pupils

Supporting students with SEMH needs and associated behavioural challenges

Building positive relationships to help regulate emotions and behaviour

Supporting learning on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams

You will play a key role in helping students feel safe, understood and supported in their educational journey.

The Ideal Candidate

Has recent experience (within the last 2 years) working with children or young people

Is confident supporting secondary-aged pupils

Has experience managing or supporting challenging behaviour

Is calm, resilient and patient under pressure

Has a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs

Works well as part of a team and follows professional guidance
