Learning Support Assistant

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Location: Across Plymouth (city-wide support)
Driving: Must hold a full UK driving licence and be able to travel between sites

Role Overview

SEN  is seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with children and young people who present a range of behavioural, social, emotional, and learning needs. This role involves supporting pupils both on-site and across multiple educational locations in the city, helping them engage positively with learning and develop key life skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with challenging behaviour and additional needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students to help improve engagement and self-regulation
- Support teaching staff in implementing behaviour strategies and personalised learning plans
- Assist pupils during lessons, transitions, off-site activities, and therapeutic sessions
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and senior staff
- Maintain a safe, calm, and structured learning environment
- Travel between ACE provisions or partner schools as required

Essential Requirements

- Must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle
- Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour (school, PRU, care, youth work or similar)
- Strong resilience, patience, and emotional awareness
- Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Confident in following behaviour support plans and safeguarding procedures
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and external professionals

Desirable Qualities

- Experience in SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings
- Team Teach or similar behaviour intervention training
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
