Naval Architect - Hydrodynamics & Vessel Performance
Location: Flexible, with occasional travel in the UK and overseas
Are you ready to take the lead on complex vessel performance projects and push the boundaries of marine engineering? We're looking for a talented Naval Architect to deliver innovative design, analysis and testing solutions across a range of vessel types.
The Role
You'll oversee technical delivery across hydrodynamic performance, model testing, and sea trials-supporting major marine design projects from concept through to validation. Acting as a key technical lead, you'll engage directly with clients, manage subcontractors, and ensure all work meets the highest engineering and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to vessel performance assessments, including powering and motions analysis

Liaise with clients to understand requirements and develop costed technical proposals

Manage technical delivery, progress, and risk across multi-disciplinary projects

Coordinate model tests, sea trials, and onboard surveys

Support and mentor team members in hydrodynamic and performance analysis

Ensure compliance with best practice, statutory, and quality standards
About You
You'll bring a strong engineering background and hands-on experience in vessel performance evaluation, with the confidence to lead projects and shape technical outcomes.
Essential:

Degree (BEng/MEng/MSc) in Naval Architecture or similar engineering discipline

Proven understanding of hydrodynamic performance through simulation, testing, or trials

Ability to travel within the UK and internationally at short notice
Desirable:

Experience leading CFD, model testing, and shipboard trials

Knowledge of DP assessment, noise/vibration analysis, and ITTC/ISO performance standards

Chartered or working towards Chartered status (RINA or equivalent)

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, Python, FineMarine, or openFOAM
