Location: Hinkley Point C Site, Somerset (5 days per week on site)

This is an opportunity to play a defining role on one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects ever delivered in the UK. As a Welding Technical Lead Engineer at Hinkley Point C, you will be at the forefront of engineering delivery on a globally significant nuclear new build programme, shaping decisions that will influence the UK's energy landscape for decades to come.
Working on site five days a week, you will provide authoritative technical leadership, bring clarity to complexity, and act as the bridge between engineering design, construction, safety, and the client. This is a role for someone who thrives in a high accountability environment and wants to see their expertise applied at real scale.
The role
As Technical Lead Engineer, you will:
·Provide overall technical leadership for your scope of work across Welding design, construction, and installation activities
·Act as the key technical interface between the consultancy, client, contractors, and supply chain
·Own technical decision making, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and regulatory expectations
·Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, setting technical standards and direction
·Drive resolution of complex technical issues in a live construction environment
·Ensure engineering outputs are compliant with nuclear codes, standards, and site processes
·Support delivery to programme, cost, and quality targets while maintaining nuclear safety as the overriding priority
What we are looking for
Essential
·IWE or EWE status, with a strong technical grounding in welding engineering
·In depth understanding of industry relevant specifications, including RCCM, and their application within nuclear environments
·Hands on experience applying welding codes and standards to complex, multidisciplinary, multi interface projects
·Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, with a strong technical foundation
·Demonstrable experience of technical problem solving, including managing and influencing a wide range of stakeholders
·Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical issues to both technical and non technical audiences
·Proven experience of site based engineering, operating effectively in live construction or installation environments
Desirable
·MSc in Welding Engineering
·Chartered Engineer status (or working toward an equivalent professional registration)
·Previous experience working within the Nuclear Industry, particularly on licensed sites
·Background in engineering design and welding specification development
·Knowledge of EPR buildings, plant, and systems, particularly within major nuclear new build programmes
·Safety Case knowledge, including previous experience of Nuclear Safety Categorisation
·Technical French language skills, enabling engagement with international design authorities and documentation
