We’re working with a leading insurer who are looking to appoint a Regional Underwriting Manager to join their commercial division. This is a pivotal role with responsibility for driving underwriting performance, profitability, and growth across SME business lines. Responsibilities of the Regional Underwriting Manager:
- Deliver the regional underwriting and financial plan, driving profitable SME growth through new business and renewals.
- Manage portfolio performance and pricing adequacy to achieve target COR.
- Build strong broker and customer relationships, promoting the SME Experts proposition and identifying growth opportunities.
- Influence distribution strategy in partnership with Sales & Distribution, strengthening key broker relationships.
- Ensure underwriting governance, profitability, and control across the regional broker panel.
- Lead, mentor, and develop underwriters across property, liability, motor, and e-trade products.
- Align regional underwriting strategy with central underwriting to meet financial objectives.
- Oversee claims updates and input into claims development where needed.
- Set and monitor underwriting standards, including audits and authority levels.
- Deliver accurate MI and use insights to drive improvements.
- Build a strong reputation as a trusted regional underwriting expert.
Our Ideal Regional Underwriting Manager:
We’re looking for an accomplished underwriting professional with proven experience managing SME commercial portfolios in the UK market. You’ll bring strong analytical and trading skills, combined with the ability to influence, negotiate, and deliver underwriting and financial plans. Recognised as a regional underwriting expert, you will be confident in guiding technical specialists, mentoring underwriters, and positively influencing employee engagement. Strong communication, commercial acumen, and leadership capabilities are essential.
