Senior Researcher Contract: Maternity Cover, FTC, minimum of 13 months – Full Time (35 hours/ week); possibility of extension/ conversion to permanent in 2020 Start date: Early July About the Young Foundation Connected, thriving communities are the foundation of our society. They keeps us safer, happier and healthier – more resilient and able to face shared challenges. Today, the Young Foundation’s mission is to enable the development of connected, more sustainable and stronger communities across the UK. We do this through amplifying the stories and lived experiences of people in our communities; using this as a spur to drive locally-led community action and enterprise. We use what we learn across different communities to spot national patterns of need and opportunity, then work with national partners to support new ideas to tackle those shared challenges. Bringing together our own – and other people’s – work, we are building a shared body of evidence, tools and insight about how communities are taking action on the issues that affect them. About the role We are seeking a Senior Researcher who has the experience and expertise to manage teams and varied projects and programmes of work where required – from evaluation of innovative social innovations to our participatory and action-oriented research in communities which supports our colleagues supporting prototyping and acceleration of innovative ideas and practices. We aim for the insight we generate to influence and inspire support for social change and influence policy and practice. We are looking for an individual who can help us manage and develop our team, and who has the research skills and confidence to explore new contexts and techniques, or to take a new approach to seemingly entrenched issues. Our work is collaborative and we will expect you to be a team player with a strong conviction for the role that research can play in influencing and shaping policy, practice and opportunities for change. This is a key position, working closely with the Director of Research to deliver a broad range of research projects and raise our profile externally as producers of useful, innovative and creatively shared insights. The role would suit a motivated self-starter with strong experience in mixed-methods research, with a passion for the work we do, and a deep understanding of the issues we tackle. Methodological expertise in evaluation and participatory approaches will be of significant benefit. You will have a strong track record in producing high quality, impactful publications and a creative flair for communication. Our work is based across the UK and we will expect that at certain times you will travel frequently to deliver it.
