Compliance Officer - Exeter

We have an enviable opportunity to join one of the largest legal practices in the South West. The successful candidate would be expected to promote the importance of compliance requirements across the firm and help support the best practices throughout all the departments. There could be an opportunity for the role to expand to full responsibility over time with the support of the partner, the managing partner, and Head of Departments. You will have a key role in the development of compliance policies and procedures to ensure they are kept relevant and achievable. Where required, they would ensure that all breaches, issues, and concerns are escalated to the correct person, giving recommendations and a proactive approach to problem solving would be essential.

Excellent communication skills will be required to be successful in this role. You will be responsible for ensuring clear and precise instructions and information is passed on to all staff. It will be important to be able to maintain relationships with HODs, Supervisors and Lawyers and their teams for the purposes of cooperation. As a key member of the accreditation team ensuring that the preparation, completed data, record keeping, and schedules are all in place for any audit such as LEXCEL and CQS.

The Ideal candidate:

There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to be able to present themselves to groups of Lawyers or the Management team with updates, plans for process changes or further firm requirements for implementations. The candidate should be personable, understanding of Lawyers and the role / deadlines and pressure they face and be supportive while achieving compliance obligations. Being able to work to a deadline will be essential, along with the capability of being flexible when projects change.

Strong IT skills are an advantage, experience of a legal setting and the compliance required in a professional setting will be fundamental.
