Lead User Experience Designer


PenFed Credit Union is hiring a Lead User Experience Designer in Tysons, Virginia.  The primary purpose of this job is to be responsible for leading the UX process for multiple financial products touching mobile and desktop responsive experiences. The Lead UX Designer must demonstrate the ability to craft product design flows, wireframes, interactions, and content strategies as well as test and evaluate the effectiveness of these designs across our range of platforms and products.

Essential Functions

  • Mentor other UX designers
  • Translate business requirements, user research and insights into wireframes and mockups that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Present UX designs to Executive stakeholders and project teams
  • Work with Business leaders to help understand and capture their business goals
  • Translate business requirements, user research and insights into wireframes and mockups that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Lead learning and ideation sessions with the design team, sharing your knowledge and help to refine and improve the design team’s process and deliverables.
  • Design and deliver user stories, user journeys and wireframes for multiple devices and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with project teams (Product, Dev, QA and visual design) to understand and document requirements.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

Education and Experience

 Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design or User Experience or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary leadership skills and UX expertise to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ of UX design and research experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience designing complex solutions for financial services products.
  • Strong online portfolio that showcases digital (web and app, if not also emerging platform) work.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications

There are no additional licenses and/or certifications required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*


Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
