Main Purpose
The Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting children’s learning and overall wellbeing, ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment. This may include assistance with personal care and behaviour management tailored to individual needs.
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible to the school’s leadership team for all duties and responsibilities.
- Support the class teacher in the daily running of the classroom, seeking guidance when needed.
Key DutiesPupil Welfare and Safeguarding
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils in line with school policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
- Provide feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
- Support positive behaviour and adapt responses to behavioural changes.
- Promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development and British values.
- Monitor and support pupils’ health and wellbeing, reporting concerns or positive developments.
- Assist with personal care needs such as toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating.
- Build positive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported.
- Encourage independence and personal development.
- Support pupils’ cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual development.
Supporting Teaching and Learning
- Implement and adapt learning activities as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare and provide resources for lessons and activities.
- Support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Reinforce learning concepts and provide additional explanation where needed.
Pupil Attainment and Progress
- Support pupils’ learning and help gather evidence of progress.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Contribute to a holistic approach to learning and development.
Monitoring and Recording
- Participate in evaluating learning activities.
- Provide feedback on pupil attainment and progress.
- Assist in monitoring, assessing, and recording pupil progress in line with school policies.
- Complete documentation related to incidents, health, and behaviour.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to support pupil development.
Professional Development and School Contribution
- Engage in ongoing professional development and attend all required training.
- Contribute to school life, including preparation for events and celebrations.
- Adapt to the changing needs of the school and perform duties to a high standard.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Experience managing a range of behaviours, including those that challenge.
- Previous experience in an educational or inclusive setting.
