Assistant Town Planner - Reading (Planning Consultancy)

A well-regarded and growing planning consultancy is looking to appoint an Assistant Town Planner to join its established Reading team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate or early-career planner to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of planning projects while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

The Role
Working as part of a supportive planning team, you will assist in delivering planning advice and securing consents for a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors such as residential, commercial, and mixed-use development.

Key responsibilities will include:

Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications and supporting documents

Conducting planning policy and site research

Preparing planning statements and reports

Supporting senior planners with project coordination and client work

Liaising with local authorities, consultants, and other stakeholders

Monitoring planning applications and policy developments

About You
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about developing a career in planning and keen to build technical knowledge within a consultancy environment.

You will likely have:

A degree (or postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline

Eligibility for, or working towards, MRTPI accreditation

Some relevant experience through a placement, internship, or early-career role (consultancy or local authority)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent research and organisational abilities

A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
