Teaching Assistant - Southampton

Prospero Teaching is looking for a driven and supportive Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming school in Southampton. This is a long-term position providing in-class support, small-group assistance, and general help across the school day.

You'll work closely with teachers to ensure lessons run smoothly, help pupils stay engaged, and provide additional guidance for children who need extra support. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to build valuable school-based experience - whether you're already experienced, looking for a change, or a graduate exploring a future in teaching or education.

The Role:

• Support teachers during lessons across different subjects
• Work with pupils 1:1, in small groups, or as part of the whole class
• Assist with learning tasks, activities, and classroom routines
• Help pupils stay focused and confident during lessons
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and engagement
• Prepare and organise classroom resources where needed
• Create a supportive, inclusive, and calm learning environment

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience working with children (school, tutoring, childcare, youth work, mentoring, etc.)
• Patient, positive, and confident supporting varied needs
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Adaptable and enthusiastic about day-to-day school life
• Happy to work across different year groups when needed
• Graduates in psychology, education, child development, or similar fields encouraged

Contract Details:

• Position: Teaching Assistant
• Location: Southampton
• Start: ASAP
• Hours: Full-time, term-time
• Pay:£14.66-£15.66 per hour
• Contract: Long-term

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

• Experience with children is desirable
• Understanding of basic behaviour management helpful
• Safeguarding training available if required

Eligibility:

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
• Two relevant references
