Altum Consulting have been retained by a privately owned construction and engineering business (c.£500m t/o) based in the Glasgow area to recruit a Finance Lead for their newly created Shared Service Centre. The role requires an experienced leader with a proven track record of transforming Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Accounts Payable processes to create robust and "best in class" functions. This individual will play a pivotal role in driving process improvements, fostering collaboration, and maximizing the value delivered by our finance operations.

Key Responsibilities,

Accounts Payable: Focus is on timely invoice processing and clearing to achieve first-time matching, closely collaborating with the Procurement Director and managing supplier expectations Conducting 12-weekly cash flow forecasting for payments and exercise control over upfront payments against credit limits.

Accounts Receivable: Collaboration with Commercial Teams ensuring understanding of contractual payment terms and WIP. Meeting the OTC cycle, collect retention's, and provide analysis and weekly reporting of Aged Debt and cash collected for the Group. Ensuring existing processes are challenged to identify risk and drive a solutions driven approach.

Payroll: Oversee the management of the team to ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly/monthly payrolls for various employee categories. Ensure statutory obligations are met, ensuring compliance and governance controls are adhered.

Agile Leadership: Embrace agile principles and practices to foster a culture of collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement within the finance shared services team. Facilitate swarming sessions to encourage cross-functional collaboration and rapid problem-solving, ensuring timely resolution of issues and challenges.

Digital Transformation: Champion digital transformation initiatives within the finance shared services function, leveraging technology and automation to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. Identify opportunities to digitize manual tasks and implement digital tools and solutions to drive innovation and improve the overall effectiveness of finance operations.

Process Optimisation: Lead efforts to optimise Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Accounts Payable processes, applying agile principles such as iterative development and feedback loops to drive continuous improvement. Implement lean practices to eliminate waste and inefficiencies, maximizing value delivery and enhancing the customer experience.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish agile metrics and KPIs to measure the performance of finance shared services functions, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. Provide regular reporting on key metrics and performance trends, highlighting areas for optimization and opportunities for further digital transformation.

Vendor Management: Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to leverage their expertise and capabilities in support of finance shared services initiatives.

Required Experience,

  • Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing finance shared services functions, with a strong track record of leveraging agile methodologies and driving digital transformation initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of agile principles and practices, with experience facilitating collaboration sessions and leading cross-functional teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience with digital transformation initiatives, including the implementation of digital tools, automation, and process optimisation strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and metrics to drive informed decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
