Directors, Senior Buyers, Buyers, Associate Buyers, Assistant Buyers and Buyers
Assistant s that are organized by product categories. (Grocery, Refrigerate
Frozen, Produce, Fresh Meat, Beer & Wine, General Merchandise, and Health &
Beauty Care) The unique buying model of Grocery Outlet is multifaceted and
combines the art of closeout buying with the discipline of managing
limited assortment of everyday SKU s. All departments and teams work
collaboratively with the same goal in mind, to provide bargain-minded
customers with the deepest discounts on quality/branded products. Our buye
are empowered with speed, flexibility and quick decision making to provide
solutions for our supplier partners and independent operators. An ideal
addition to the purchasing team will bring a cultural fit, energy, passion,
creative thinking, and the desire to be best in class as an individual and as a
team member.


The Buyer has the responsibility of managing and mentoring a team. You will
provide bargain-minded customers with the deepest discounts primarily from
purchasing excess inventory. You will be a part of the MTO (Made-to-Order)
team; the MTO Team is responsible for the category management decisions,
seasonal planning, RFP s and the replenishment of everyday items. You will
responsible for all aspects of the direct store delivery beverages,
and salty snacks generating in excess of $250M annually. You will manage key
supplier relationships and provide direction and mentorship to your team. Your
primary role is to optimize the assortment through exceptional category
management practices, including a rigorous regular item level review, supplier
performance reviews & promotional planning while supporting our commitment of
providing VALUE to our customers. The Buyer will report to the Senior Buyer

* Successfully identify new product opportunities
* Adjust retail price, margin, value to the customer, risk, and timing
during negotiations
* Recommend and advocate innovative solutions during the negotiating
* Partner with the planning team to identify opportunities that
strategically maximize sales and minimize loss
* Maintain cross functional relations with Operations, Store Operators,
Marketing and IT
* Foster relationships with our existing supplier base.
* Prioritize which deals to pursue
* Take the lead in inspiring others with differing viewpoints to work
together for mutual benefit
* Plan short and long-term goals based on team and department's strategic
* Respond to changing demands and prioritize appropriately
* Demonstrated ability to successfully sell Grocery Outlet to vendors

* 5+ years of category management and/or buying experience
* Experience with Bread, Snacks & Beverages preferred
* Experience leading and developing other
* Experience in a fast-paced environment
* Experience with Direct-Store-Delivery preferred
* A strategic thinker with the tactical skills needed to execute the plan
* Proven track record of successfully growing Your segment of the business
* Highly analytical with exceptional communication skills.
* Excellent negotiation skills
* Experience working with a discount retailer is a plus.
* Travel 20-40% of the time.
